Serayah Silver is an Artist; world builder, dramaturg and screenwriter working in Durham, North Carolina. Their work centers personal and social unveiling as a means to Black Queer Liberation. Their work as a dramaturg allows them to inhabit and reimagine stories, to serve as liaison first between author and text, and then between story and intended audience. “I paint what I like and I write my desires into reality. I came (back) to this planet to experience, and create more Love, more Art, and Practical magic; which I have found are often one in the same.”

Creative partnership and engagement with Serayah happens on a soul level. As both a writer and an editor, Serayah's creative and interpersonal gifts are plentiful and stellar. From our initial work together at the Tin House summer writers' workshop to our current work on two book-length editorial projects, I'm always grateful for Serayah's keen imagination, intellect, and insights; diligence; attention to detail; responsiveness; and kindness.

Serayah creates an incredibly safe environment. I come into any dramaturgical session (or feedback session) with despair expecting honest cruelty but although Serayah is interested in honesty, they're less interested in cruelty. A fun thing that happened was how Serayah gave me notes that made my first act fun to edit for the first time. Normally, I can pinpoint what to work on for the second act but my first act I couldn't quite figure out what to do. NOT THIS TIME! I also appreciate that Serayah is interested in understanding what your goals are before telling you to FIX! FIX! FIX! So often as a writer you submit to so many opportunities and you think, "maybe I don't have IT!" But with Serayah's affirmations and care I started to realize, Perhaps, this is a play I can finally stop developing to death because we have done the work and now the work is getting it produced!

Prentiss Matthews III
Serayah was a very open, kind, and empathetic dramaturg who offered a great deal of knowledge and introspection into one of my plays. I felt open to expressing my goals, as well as my personal experiences that impacted the world of the play that I was creating.

As a participant in their Spring 2024 writer's workshop, my creative output was transformed by Serayah's teaching. Throughout there was a ruthless adherence to high standards and quality in the work we produced and this was elevated further by the style of instruction; elements where our talent shone were elevated by encouraging us to lean wholeheartedly into our authentic selves. This unwavering commitment to the truth of a story is where we did most of our work. Through this Serayah taught us techniques and showed us insights into our own works that honed rough gems into publishable jewels.
